Many people no longer want to be defined by a title, a status, or a gender.
Whilst some people may like their gender specific and marital status specific titles, those who do not often have little choice about opting out if they do not want to choose or divulge.
Gender specific titles mean that women must always make a statement about their marital status or make the proactive decision to opt out by using ‘Ms’ or the more recently popularised, ‘Mx’.
Our founder Stella Sutcliffe (@StellaLM) set up this campaign in September 2018 after realising that by demanding title information, in the way which many organisations do, puts unnecessary pressure on women, and on those who are undecided on their gender identity and on non-binary individuals.
Go Title Free™ seeks to achieve freedom of gender identity and marital status titles for all areas of society by challenging and facilitating businesses, charities, institutions and associations to stop requesting, and using, name prefixes (i.e. ‘Mr’, ‘Mrs’, ‘Miss’, ‘Ms’, or ‘Mx’) when onboarding and communicating with the public, their customers and their employees.
Go Title Free™ believes that the gathering of marital status title information is unnecessary to all organisations.
Go Title Free™ believes that to achieve true choice, we must begin with organisations, challenging them to, and supporting them with changing the way in which they gather, store and communicate with their people internally and externally.
